There are many ways to serve God in this world. We at First Baptist Church of Mebane realize the value of a “community of believers”. That community gives to us as individuals, growing in our faith, enjoying fellowship, and having a place in which to worship. But we also realize that “community” empowers us, as committed Christians, to live up to our responsibility of stewardship of our physical church, providing sanctuary for our community of believers, and most importantly, spreading the Gospel message in our community, locally, in our state, our nation, and our world.
We serve these needs mostly with our volunteers. We have a number of “Teams” tasked with individual responsibilities throughout our church. From financial stewardship through child care, from building ramps to home visits, from serving meals to teaching lessons, there is a huge number of skill sets needed. Whatever your individual skills are, there’s a place where you can serve. As Pastor Sammy is fond of saying, “God doesn’t call just the equipped, He equips the call”.
There are several, sometimes unheralded, benefits from our volunteerism. Firstly, the fulfillment of working for the Lord, of doing what he has, biblically and through the Holy Spirit, called upon us to do. We are not saved through works, but given the unearned saving Grace of God, we feel the call to work, to give back, a portion of the blessings He has so generously given to us. Secondly, we are given fellowship, and friendship, with our fellow volunteers. Attending a worship service is certainly beneficial to your spiritual life, but making Christian friends in small groups gives long lasting connection to our church community, and an important part of your faith journey.
