Missions

First Baptist Church and our Call to Missions.

At First Baptist Church of Mebane, faith isn’t just something we learn—it’s something we live out. “Do Stuff” is all about putting faith into action through serving, connecting, and making a difference. Whether it’s volunteering in the church, helping in the community, or supporting missions, there’s a place for you to get involved. To volunteer for any of these opportunities or to inquire about other opportunities, call our church office, and we’ll put you in touch with the appropriate team leader.

Jesus told his disciples in Matthew 28:18-20, “All power in Heaven and on earth has been given to me. You, then, are to go and make disciples of all the nations and baptize them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Teach them to observe all that I have commanded you and, remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the world.”

Handyman Ministry

Our Handyman Ministry builds ramps for community members who need a ‘handicap’ entry and are not able to either do the work themselves or hire someone to do it.

Disaster Relief Team

When disaster strikes, we deploy our Disaster Relief Team to go where they are needed.  Lately that hasn’t been too far away as we have responded to hurricanes on our coast and floods in our mountain regions.  All you need is a willingness to serve and we’ll find a job for you!  (You don’t have to be a church member here to serve!)

Women Missionary Union Groups

We currently have three groups of women who meet to fellowship, learn about missions and what God is doing in our world, plan mission action projects, pray for missionaries on their birthdays, and financially support missions.

Our Mission Action Projects include but are not limited to: Samaritan’s Purse Operation Christmas Child, Alamance County Christmas Cheer, Seasonal Cards for Mebane Ridge and Compass Care residents, Habitat for Humanity gift baskets.

We are currently committed to prayer and financial support to two international missionaries, one with Open Door Foundation in Ukraine, another with Mission at Work in Thailand, and one North American missionary in Texas.

We focus on three major special missions’ offerings each year: Lottie Moon Offering for International Missions, Annie Armstrong Offering for North American Missions, and North Carolina Missions Offering.

To provide options, each group meets at the church at a different time of day.  Bridge Builders meet on the second Thursday at 10 AM.  Reflections Group meet on the first Tuesday of the month from September-December and February-May at 2:00 PM.  Sharon Knight Group meet on the first Monday (September-May) at 7:00 PM.  All groups meet at the church.  Call the church office for more information.

In As Much Ministry

In As Much Ministry happens twice a year…in the spring and in the fall.  During a Saturday we meet at the church and then teams go out into the community and provide service, working to meet the needs of others.  This may include painting, washing windows, cleaning gutters, raking and cleaning yards, and visiting.

Meals on Wheels

In coordination with the Alamance County Meals on Wheels program and other Mebane churches, volunteers deliver meals to those in need.  FBCM also supports the program financially.

Manna Market

Provides food insecure families in our community with help each month. If you would like to assist with food contributions, the teal box under the portico at the east entrance is our community collection container. This ministry is another way of following Jesus’s example of loving our neighbors.  In Matthew 25:44-45, followers of Jesus asked him, ‘When did we ever see you hungry or thirsty or homeless or shivering or sick or in prison and didn’t help?’  Jesus replied, ‘Whenever you failed to do one of these things to someone who was being overlooked or ignored, that was me – you failed to do it to me.’
